Fox of Fire gets a makeover

by Claire 24/06/2009 09:34

Firefox have changed their logo, although you might not notice the difference.  As an open source browser, it's not surprising that developers and webtechs are big fans of it.  So when Firefox chose Icon Factory over previous designer Jon Hicks to create them a new logo, they decided to make the task just that little bit more lengthy by continuing the open source theme and seeking the world's opinions on the matter.  Every Iteration from 1 to 13 was available for the public to comment on.

A slightly excruciating task perhaps when the differences are barely noticeable, and a barrage of outcries hit all the newsly created 16x16 pizel version.  Many are questionning whether it needed changing in the first place, but overall, the Fox of Fire turns out softer, and the world appears more lit.  It's hardly likely to offend die-hard FireFox users.

"Here, Money! Like IE8 now please!"

by Claire 18/06/2009 04:16

Microsoft are having a bash at making people like Internet Explorer.  Their cunning plan currently runs in Australia, and instead of offering to feed the homeless per download as they've tried before, offers you a chance to win $10,000.  Wonderful.

The company's buried the money "somewhere on the Internet" which involves panning around google maps to find a certain point and thus winning the money.  Illusive old Microsoft have made it available only to those with IE8 (that product this all reovlves around).  For those accessing the site without IE8, they get a lovely message on the homepage: “But you’ll never find it using that browser. So get rid of it, or get lost.”  Oh good.

Not only alienating apple users and calling Safari old (yes, but they can't use IE anyway so it doesn't matter) they've also called Firefox old.  One developer at this point, heaved himself out of his black reclinable chair and formulated a plan (detailed on his blog).  Looking at the Microoft map, his first thought was to grab the domain name 'ten grand is buried there' whcih Microsoft seemed to have forgotten about.  He then planted a giant Firefox logo.  Perfect.

Locate the replacement here and find the Firefox logo by clicking zoom.  There's a picture below, but it gets better

Opportunity

by Dudley 16/04/2009 09:53

Leo Burnett has created a free plugin for firefox users that changes the word 'crisis' on any webpage into the word 'opportunity'. How nice!

"We want to stop thinking about the problem to start thinking about the solution. For that we designed a tool that will allow you to surf the web, without having to read the most said word of the last months, ever again."
