"How to spot an IPhone and Ipod Touch user in their natural habitat.." says Bear Grylls clever report.

by Claire 19/06/2009 10:37
If you've got an iPhone, the chances are that you're likely to be older and richer than an iPod Touch owner.  Both owners however are 70% likely to be men.
  • 50% of you will also surf mobile web more than reading newspapers or mag,
  • Over 40% use mobiles more than computers to get get online,
  • There's also over a 40% chance that you'll spend more time on mobile web than listening to the radio,

This is all very well and good, but what are the characteristics of each owner?

As an iPod Touch owner, it's likely I'm younger than those with an iPhone;

  • 69% of iPod Touch  users are between 13-24 whilst 74% of iPhone customers are older than 25.
  • iPod Touch users are also likely to be less wealthy than iPhone users, with 78% of iPhone users' household incomes of $25,000 or more, compared to a smaller 66% of iPod Touch users.
  • iPhone owners are more likely to have kids - 46% of iPhone users have chilldren whilst only 28% of iPod touch users do,
  • Socially, iPod Touch owners are more likely to shop for cellphones (of course), clothes, TVs and other electronics.
  • The iPhone elite meanwhile are likely to spend money jet-setting and travelling, spoending money on financial services and real estate.
Lovely.  I'm female, I like clothes, and I've got an iPod Touch.  So not wildly off the mark there, Mr survey.

Gone are the everyday worries of misplacing a socket!

by Claire 15/06/2009 03:25
Having problems finding a plug socket?  A company have created their solution to everyday issue in the form of a shiny little robot (and it's an open source company too, which is nice).  Busy on a test run around the office tackling a test of ten doors and plug sockets, the only flaw occurred when too many keen robot-makers overloaded it with monitoring, causing its enthusiastic plug-hunting to become a slow trawl along the corridors.  With keen enthusiasts calmed down, the robot was quickly back on its journey of discovery.

Strange limp remote to writhe in your hand?

by Claire 15/06/2009 10:46
Silly metaphors aside, Panasonic have just created what is basically a floppy remote control that spends its time lying cold and limp whilst "slumbering", with a pulsating light.  Once touched in any way, it gets quite "excited" (words of the manufacturer) and becomes rigid.  It's also handily made of a flesh-like gel (just what we've always wanted!) and to top it off also "breathes."  It sounds a little suspicious, but as long as it doesn't huff and puff during films that's fine by me.

00Snake

by Claire 11/06/2009 04:43
Israel's Defence Forces have enlisted snakes to help them.  Not real ones mind you (snake communication problems stopped that) - these ones are "also known as robots" (a great description I thought) with microphones and cameras prepped to crawl around the battlefield doing reconnaissance work.  When the snake - or more accurately the snake-handler - finds someone or something it likes it'll be able to sidle up have a good old eavesdrop.  They look pretty interesting in action..
